Tailor your Sights: audit and update

Every group tour has a Tailor your Sights section. It lists extra places a group could add to the tour.

Each item should read the same way: the name of the place in bold, then a dash, then a short description.

In September 2026 we checked every group tour against that rule. We also read every item looking for mistakes. This page records what we found and what we changed.

How to read this page

Each fix is a row with three columns:

Tour links to the tour’s Tailor your Sights section on the live website. The item number counts down the list from the top.
Before is what the section said before we changed it.
After is what it says now.

Until a fix is made, the After column shows the change we propose, marked ⏸️. Once made, it shows ✅ and the final wording.

Heading, intro and link

✅ Done on 25 September 2026, after John approved option 2. Tracked in issue #1151.

Heading. Every tour said “Tailor your sights”. John asked for a capital S. Every tour now says “Tailor your Sights”.

Intro. The line under the heading came in three versions. Every tour now uses option 2.

John first asked for option 1. We recommended option 2, because it invites the group to add places of their own, and John agreed.

Link from Tailor your Features. The Tailor your Features list offered different sights in three wordings: “Include different excursions” (63 tours), “With fewer or different excursions” (11) and an old-website version pointing to a “Tailor-make this tour” tab (7). Some were links, to two different places. 45 tours also had an item called “Tailor your sights” linking down to this section.

Every tour now ends the list the same way, using one word, sights:

Only “Tailor your Sights” is a link, so the link says exactly where it goes. The note sits under the list rather than in it, because every item after “You could:” should be something the group could do. The asterisk is the same style as the note under Extras on tailored tours. This is added to each new tour after it is imported.

Portugal’s Douro River is the one exception. It is a river cruise, and its Tailor your Features section is written as paragraphs rather than a list, so it has neither.

We have also asked John whether “For more (or fewer) days” belongs with the hotel line above it. On the old website the list read as one sentence (“stay at a 4* hotel for more (or fewer) days”), so on its own line it does not quite make sense.

The template. New tours are created from a template. It now has the new heading and intro.

These tours use a long dash (–) between the name and the description. Every other tour uses a short one (-). We change them to the short dash when we bold the names, so every tour looks the same.

The change here is the same on every tour: the name before the dash becomes bold. No words change. Rather than list every item, each tour is ticked once its whole list is done.

Norfolk and RHS Garden Bridgewater were already in bold. Yorkshire was fixed first, as a test, on 2026-09-24.

Checked and left alone

Two Venice items on one tour. Lake Garda Venice and Verona with Oberammergau for Groups lists Venice twice, but they are different activities (a gondola ride and the Accademia). Not a duplicate.

No list of sights, by design. These 19 tours have no list. The section holds a general paragraph instead (“Remember that this tour is just our suggestion…”). The old website had no extra sights for them either, so there is nothing to bold.
