URL Redirects
The old Tailored Travel website used different URL addresses to the new one. A tour that used to live at tailored-travel.co.uk/norfolk now lives at tailored-travel.co.uk/group-tours/the-history-and-heritage-houses-of-norfolk/.
To make sure visitors who follow old links or bookmarks still reach the right page, 301 redirects are in place. A 301 redirect automatically sends anyone visiting an old address to the correct new one. Search engines also follow these redirects and transfer the SEO value of the old URL to the new one over time.
131 redirects were created when the new site launched, covering all group tours and the old country/region category pages. For example:
/norfolk→/group-tours/the-history-and-heritage-houses-of-norfolk//spain→/destinations/spain//italy→/destinations/italy/
Managing redirects
Section titled “Managing redirects”Redirects are managed in the backoffice via the Redirect Management dashboard in the Content section. From here you can:
- See all active redirects
- Add a redirect manually
- Delete redirects that are no longer needed
Retiring redirects
Section titled “Retiring redirects”The redirects from the old site are temporary. Once the new URLs are well established in search engines, the old redirects can be deleted from the Redirect Management dashboard. No technical work is needed — just delete the entries you no longer want.
Adding redirects for new pages
Section titled “Adding redirects for new pages”If a page moves or is renamed, Umbraco automatically creates a redirect from the old URL to the new one. You do not need to do anything.
If you need to add a redirect manually — for example, if an old printed URL needs to point somewhere new — use the Redirect Management dashboard in the Content section.
