Creating a Tailored Tour

Each Tailored Tour page is created by importing the tour’s PDF brochure into Umbraco. The system reads the PDF and fills in the page content automatically. There are then a number of steps to complete before the page is ready.

The steps

Work through these in order:

1. Import the PDF via UpDoc — creates the page from the brochure
2. Check the organiser fields — verify what was extracted
3. Set the Tour Destinations — not imported automatically
4. Build the image rotator — pick images from the Sights library
5. Attach the brochure PDF — wire up the downloadable brochure
6. Give access to the tour — create the member login
7. Publish — final check and publish

These seven steps are the editor’s part of the job

A full tour import has more stages than this, most of them technical: locating the right brochure file, resolving the old site address, checking every imported block against the PDF, and setting up the redirect. Those are handled separately.

The seven steps above are the ones done in the backoffice. They are numbered in their own sequence, so they will not match the step numbers used in the developer documentation.

Before you start

You will need:

• The tour’s PDF brochure
• The tour’s TTM number (printed on the PDF filename, e.g. TTM5171)
• The tour’s Online Tour Reference (the login code the group will use, e.g. rchd271) — provided by Tailored Travel
